If you are taking a killer class like a tough chemistry or engineering class, don’t let it sneak up on you. When you’re in college, suddenly there’s no one telling you to do your homework or to be studying daily, and there are plenty of other tempting things competing for your time. But if you wait until close to your first exam to start really studying, you may have the kind of experience I did as a freshman at Georgia Tech.
Every day after you get out of that class, attack it and actively dig into it. Work your notes, work your textbook and other materials, and plan to spend two hours of studying for every hour you spend in class until you know you’re on top of things in that class.
You won’t spend as much time on your lighter-weight classes like health or intro to psych, so don’t despair! Start studying actively and thoroughly from the first day and get some “money in the bank.” You’ll be really glad you did when that first test date does roll around.
