It’s Friday and the whole weekend is stretching invitingly ahead of you. You’ve been studying like crazy all week, so really you’re caught up and in good shape, but you have one pesky thing due Monday morning. If you’re like me and just do what comes naturally, this situation will lead to spending your whole weekend doing whatever pleasant things come your way, all the time with the assignment lurking faintly in the back of your mind, then a hellish Sunday night when the to-do item starts to feel like a real action item.
Instead, take control of that item and decide when will be the best time to get it done! How long will it take? Is it something you can do before you even leave your room Saturday morning? Set a time to do it – and stick to it! Otherwise Saturday morning will slip away without your really knowing where it went. “I’ll look at Facebook or talk on the phone until 11 am, then I’ll do that assignment.” Make a real appointment with yourself, including allotting an appropriate amount of time for it, and keep that appointment. Then you can spend the rest of your time guilt-free, knowing the item is done and there’s nothing else hanging over your head!
